You want a truck, and you’ve decided that the 2019 RAM 1500 is the right choice for you. After all, it was named MotorTrend’s 2019 Truck of the Year for a reason! There’s just one little hiccup—there’s so many different variants and trim levels, you aren’t sure just which 1500 you should get.
Well don’t you worry, your friends here at Go Auto Don Mills Chrysler are going to run down the different trim levels to help you decide which one has the features which are right for you.
2019 RAM 1500 ST
The ST is the base model of the RAM 1500, but don’t let that dissuade you from taking it into consideration. Even the most basic 1500 is a capable light pickup truck! The ST comes standard with the 3.6L Pentastar™ VVT V6 and a 8-speed automatic transmission. That translates into a respectable 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, along with an impressive 9.6L/100 KM fuel economy on the highway, and 13.9L/100 KM in the city. This economical choice still packs the ParkView® Rear Back-Up Camera, a heavy duty 40/20/40 front bench seat, and a 3.5-inch Electronic Vehicle Information Centre. If you don’t need a lot of flash, and just need an inexpensive truck which will handle any job you throw at it, the ST is for you.
2019 RAM 1500 EXPRESS
The basic ST is a fine, handsome truck, whereas the RAM 1500 Express adds a bit more flash for someone who wants a truck which is going to stand out a bit. 17” aluminum wheels, body colour accents, and fog lamps add to the exterior look of the truck. Inside, you get SiriusXM satellite radio (along with a free one-year subscription to try it out!). The Express also lives up to its name by making it easier to get in and out, thanks to Remote Keyless entry.
2019 RAM 1500 SXT PLUS
If you don’t want to go down the Express route you can also build on the ST by checking out the RAM 1500 SXT Plus, which adds chrome finishes to the exterior, and replaces the vinyl front bench seat with cloth. Like the Express, it also comes with the 17” aluminum wheels and SiriusXM satellite radio.
2019 RAM 1500 SLT
The RAM 1500 SLT is the next big step up from the SXT Plus. The truck looks much nicer, thanks to chrome bumpers and accents. The Radio 3.0 multimedia centre is replaced with Uconnect® multimedia centre with a 5” touchscreen, with Bluetooth® streaming audio. The interior also adds some more quality of life improvements, such as overhead console, temperature and compass displays, rear power sliding window, and a remote USB port for charging your devices.
2019 RAM 1500 NIGHT EDITION
Look… we know sometimes you’re not concerned about the performance of your truck, or the high-tech features. Sometimes you just want a truck which looks really, really good. And what looks better than a sleek, black ride? Something so black it starts drawing in the light around it? Something so black, it has its own gravity? Something so—okay, yes, you get it. Well, the Night Edition is that black ride, with black accents and insets on every surface. Throw on some automatic quad halogen headlamps with black bezels and you’ll turn night into day in front of you. This luxury ride also throws in a Uconnect® 4 system with 8.4-inch touchscreen.
Okay, you’ve picked your trim level—but there are few other options you may want to consider for your new RAM 1500. For example, we mentioned the basic ST trim comes with a 3.6L Pentastar™ VVT V6 engine. But the 1500 also offers two other engine options. For more power, you can opt for the legendary 5.7L HEMI® VVT V8 engine. Enjoy up to 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 gives you a few less horses at 240, but a bit more torque in 420 lb-ft. You should also decide if you need four-wheel drive or not, as both are available as options. Box length is variable between 5’7” and 8’, if you need some more cargo space in your truck bed. And hey, depending on the kind of passenger space you need, you can choose between regular, quad, and crew cabs. Not sure what the difference is? A regular cab is a smaller two-door, three passenger cab. The quad cab is more practical for a family, with four doors and seating up to six. The crew cab is the most spacious option, with more leg room and storage space in the cab.
